When Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave, Lazarus did not, from the surrounding evidence, conclude that he was alive. He simply, and obediently came forth. These are the actions of true sheep.
Our faith does not rest on our evaluation of the evidence. Our faith rests in the power of God. Our eyes are not on the bones and rocks. Man cannot find out all that is behind Him and before Him.
No amount of investigation will lead men to “figure out” the universe and the wonderful works of God. These works have been hidden form our site (Eccl 7:23-24).
So where are we to look? We are taught throughout the bible to keep our eyes fixed, in fear and trembling, upon God.
Jesus spoke and worked the works of God. It strengthened sheep and hardened the wicked (John 11:45-46). When we act and speak faithfully we should expect the same result. What should we do? We should keep our eyes and ears fixed on Jesus. In the plan of God, this is where your salvation comes from. And this is what transforms a life (2 Cor 3:18).
The Jewish leaders were in a panic over Jesus power. It could mean the ruin of their own comfortable lifestyles. It could mean the demise of their own Kingdom.
They saw and heard the miracle. They were confronted with the reality. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. What to do? The Jews opted to kill Jesus for the sake of the nation. A prophecy uttered by Caiaphas, the High Priest and fulfilled by Jesus.
Jesus does have power over life and death. He is God in the flesh. All kingdoms will eventually crumble under Him rule so that His Kingdom may be established on earth.
Ours in to believe and live out what we believe. Keeping our eyes on His excellency, His power, His love as a good Shepherd.
Knowing that our times are in His hands and He will never leave us nor forsake us.
