Lithuania was strongly nationalistic when it declared its independence from a crumbling Soviet Union in 1991. It is still struggling to overcome poverty after 50 years of communist misrule.

Lithuania was the last European nation to hear the gospel. The Catholic Church has always held great influence, except during communist rule when all religions were oppressed. Although there is now greater religious freedom, ‘non-traditional’ groups like evangelical churches are not treated with the same equality.

Some charismatic and younger parts of the Catholic Church are growing. Pray that more and more people would really understand the gospel message and give their lives to God.

Pray that church leaders would be grounded in the Bible and not be compromised by false teaching. Pray that more people would be called and equipped into leadership.
